…daddy decal…

One of the side benefits of homeschooling, is bonus daddy time. Mr Barefoot is off to work of a morning before the children are up, so lunchtime is often the first time they see him for the day. It’s really lovely for them to have that little slice of time in the middle of the day. Less lovely? The constant “is daddy coming home” questions that kick off around 10am.

I “accidentally” had a Cricut Maker fall into my online shopping cart for the family to give me for Christmas, and when it arrived, I ripped it open before the husband could insist it had to go under the tree, like he did when I got my new sewing machine. In my defense, I do have some Christmas projects I wanted to use it for. That’s my story, anyway, and I’m sticking to it.

On the weekend, we went for a little drive in search of some national park prettiness, and on the way, we stopped at the next town over for some Christmas shopping. Somehow, we ended up in Spotlight, completely unplanned, I promise. Since we were there anyway, I picked up a few little extras while they were on sale, like some tools, some extra mats, and a roll of decal vinyl. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it too…

I made the text up in Canva, and then dumped it into the cricut app. As well as the vinyl for the decal, I also found a command hook to hang two tags cut from cardstock with “yes” and “no” in matching text. I offset the answers on the two tags, so the one behind would create a solid background for the text on top.

It was such a fun little project, and a great way to practice various cuts and techniques on my machine. My wishlist for extra tools and add-ons is growing by the day as I discover more and more projects around the place. With the holidays coming up, I’m looking forward to lots of Cricut play time. For now, though, I need to put it aside until I help the children finish their mini quilts. That’s today’s plan, since it’s pouring rain outside. An inside day at the sewing table with raindrops on the tin roof as our soundtrack sounds like the perfect way to spend a couple of hours, don’t you think?
