crystal beaded tiara

Sometimes there are projects that just don’t go to plan. This was one of them. The first design didn’t work. The beads for the second design didn’t arrive in time, and when I tried to dash to the shops to find replacement crystals locally, I managed to get halfway through the first shop before the phone rang. Mr Dove, at home with the sick children over his lunch hour save taking them out in the rain, had to leave to meet clients  who had arrived early. The replacement beads didn’t end up giving me the look I wanted, so I went back to stash stuff anyway. There was much fidgeting and fussing and getting it fixed and working and sitting the way I wanted it to as time ticked away and my deadline rapidly approached, which was quite frustrating because I had planned for it to be done with plenty of time, so that I could do the stuff I needed to be doing instead of sitting on my butt threading beads. And then, of course, with a little helper watching like a hawk as every bead go on, there was the usual tussle of mummy insisting it wasn’t for her while she attempted to assert Rule Of Toddler Possession #7 – It’s Pretty And Pink And I Like It Thus It Is Mine.

I was really chuffed with how it came out. With more time, I would have liked to have gone nuts with some threaded beads and the hot glue across the front of the comb to pretty that up a bit, but with the baby crawling around and the girl chat chat chatting away next to me, the stuff that had to get done ahead of a big weekend piling up and not getting done, my stress levels wouldn’t have coped, and the recipient has dark hair anyway, so the comb wasn’t going to stand out too much.

The tiara is made from beading wire, a roll that I’d purchases a while back for Alley’s rainbow birds nest necklace, and threaded with cream seed beads, fuchsia Czech fire-polished crystals and rose pink (I think, I don’t have the exact colour designation on hand) bicone Swarovski crystals, and is just wired onto a simple hair slide comb I purchased from the supermarket. It was a fun little project, and with the errant bead order now in hand, I have plans to make another for Madam Butterfly. But not today. Today is another day of weekend recovery (how does one mama and one Beetle Baby generate so.much.unpacking?), then tomorrow, tomorrow I have big plans starting with costume finishing and then Project Lifeing to get March finished so I can photograph a few layouts and finally get around to posting about what’s happening with that for 2014. First I have to do the boring stuff so I can enjoy the good stuff guilt free. Have a fabulous Tuesday!

totallypinspiredsmallThis little tiara was made with the help of completed pins fifteen & sixteen (of sixteen required to date) in my “totally pinspired” challenge to turn my pins into projects – I used this pin and this as inspiration. We are aiming to complete a minimum of two pins a month. For all my Totally Pinspired projects, click here. You can find my Pinterest boards here, and my completed pins board here. If you’ve been totally pinspired as well, I’d love to see what you’ve been making!
