tick tock

The baby was asleep, the housework was as up-to-date as it ever seems to get, and so I made myself a cup of coffee, and steaming mug in hand. took a moment to check in on social media. It’s no huge secret, for those of you who have been here a while, that I am a huge fan of Pride & Prejudice, and The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. I even copped the blame for inspiring a challenge last year. The LBD was also my first real foray into internet-based fandom as I got sucked into the vortex of Tumblr and fanfiction and meta and fangirling and all the fun stuff that comes with connecting with other people as enthusiastic as yourself. And as I sat down, and looked at my twitter feed, a question popped up.

And surprisingly, my answer was no. I guess at the height of my LBD engagement, I was too unwell, and since then it’s kind of tapered off. I’ve played around with fanfiction with a couple of drabbles, but nothing really arty or crafty. But of course, the idea was out there, and I then made the mistake of asking what kind of thing they would like to see. Needless to say, I now have a seperate notebook in my Evernote to collate all my ideas. So many projects! But I decided to start small and manageable. Once suggestion was the delightfully vague “anything Darcy related”. And really, how could I resist something like that. I have a few ideas still rattling around, but this one came together quite quickly

fimo pocket watch keyring

For those of you who aren’t obsessive as familiar with LBD, towards the end of the series, Darcy shows off his very smooth pocket-watch-carrying habit. I made the main part of the watch from Fimo, then used wire and Swarovski crystals for the hands. A jump ring attached to the watch face at 12 o’clock gave me an anchor point for both the watch chain decoration, and an eyelet pin with another Swarovski crystal and a couple of seed beads, and then another jump ring to join them both onto the clasp. The watch is around 1″ in diameter, and a super cute addition to my keychain.

Today is all systems go and prepping for camp tomorrow. I have a big craft tote waiting to be filled. I’ve sent my requests off to those who graciously volunteered the bring art supplies to play with and try. Everything that needs booking is booked. Now to clean and pack and enjoy some time with the big kids before Beetle and I head north for a mama play date. Just like on a pocket watch, the minutes are ticking away quicker than the jobs on the to-do list are getting done. 22 hours until launch and counting. Can you tell I’m excited?
