{blogtober day 18} around here.

Oh Friday, how glad I am to see you. It’s been a full + busy week, and I’m spending my evening watching the radar, looking forward to rain on the roof around bedtime. I’ve been getting up early and staying up late, being Emotional Support Presence for Bear at both ends of his increasingly busy day. He is grown and fully capable, but life is much more pleasant when you know you aren’t doing it alone, so I get up and stay up and keep him company. Sometimes we talk. Sometimes we simply watch for the sunrise as I inhale a coffee and he powers through a bowl of weetbix. All times I soak up these little moments of the everyday, keenly aware they are rapidly slipping away from me.
The learner driver took us for a drive in search of an epic pub lunch. The kids made the most of the end of birthday season and demolished the last of the 100s & 1000s with fairy bread for morning tea as many mornings this week as I would allow. Beetle and I went for a pre-Scouts walk in town, and then after I dropped him off, I kicked off the Term Four season of my favourite self care tradition – I took myself to the RSL for a drink and a couple of chapters of my book. It’s the one hour a week where I have no children to care for and no chores to do and nowhere to be in a hurry, giving me space to decompress and just be.
I’ve knitted and tatted and arted and scrapbooked. I’ve blogged each and every day and felt myself getting more inspired the more I write. Today we’ve cleaned the house top to bottom; shout out to Giraffey for taking on the very important job of Housework Karaoke DJ. I pulled some old invitation papers and finally got them listed for my destash. My craft room is sparkling clean and the Roomba has been running around all afternoon.
Dinner has been done and packed up and we’ve swapped Friday Night Movie Night for a Four Kid Mario Battle. I’m going to throw on Only Murders In The Building and pick up my knitting and ease my way into the weekend. If this storm eventuates I might call it an early night and tuck myself in. Tomorrow, I walk and photo catch up and try my best to get this quilt top finished.
Around here, we’re working hard on making some magic. Happy weekend, friends!

A weekly podcast on creativity, connection, community and collaboration

You have a very full life that you’re filling with all the best things – family and “me time.” You make me miss those hurried days with two children, daily schedules, homework, activities, meal-planning, and tuck-ups into bed. Mine are in their 40s now, and definitely don’t need mom as they once did. I hear from each of them only every two to three months. Still, a mother’s heart is always a mother’s heart, and I have sad moments. Good for you to be posting every day! Wow! I can’t do that, and feel that I’m doing well to post once a week. Time flies, even when you’re a senior citizen.
What a beautiful comment to fill my Saturday morning! It is a busy life but as you say it passes so quickly, and I’m sure before I know it they will be grown and flown and I will miss it all, so I try my best to soak it all up. I read your blog and envy all you get done – us blogger types are good at filling our days, aren’t we? Thank you for the sweet message and kind encouragement, have a blessed and crafty weekend xx
