{blogtober day 4} tales from the rest bed

Teeth, I have decided, are inordinately stupid. Not only have I spent a fortune on braces that would have been much more fun spending on craft supplies, but to add insult to injury, this week I had to pay out yet again – for me, this time, to get my wisdom teeth out. To be fair, I’ve been ignoring the ruddy things since they first decided to make an appearance in 2007, somewhere around the time Bear was also starting to teeth. They settled down, the teething babies kept coming with some regularity, and it was never really a priority. Until now.

On Tuesday, I found myself staring up at a light, wondering when I might feel drowsy as I felt the chill of the anaesthetic run up the veins in my arm. Next thing I knew, the lovely nurse was suggesting I might like to wake up from what I think I could safely classify as the best sleep I’ve had in the last 18 years.

Wednesday was recovery day. I felt pretty reasonable, but was sure to take it easy. I finished watching Return To Paradise, and binged the entire first season of Only Murders In The Building. I scrolled far too much social media. I chatted to Car and started knitting a mini mushroom for Butterfly’s birthday…and frogged it and restarted it after the pattern turned out to be almost useless (thank goodness it was only $1!). I blogged and crossposted to Substack and finished the mushroom and got bored again, and hit up Pinterest.

And that, friends, is where everything went down hill.

I pinned a stack of Project Life layouts. I got an email with a restock of 4×4″ page protectors, and my lizard brain kicked into gear. Wouldn’t that make a cute December Daily? Off shopping I went, and soon had an album ordered from one shop and some protectors from another. Then back to Pinterest and oh look at the Day In The Life album in landscape, isn’t that cool, hey I haven’t done that in years maybe I should…go shopping.

Suddenly, somehow, it seems I have two albums on the way, even though I haven’t yet started my holiday album sitting on my shelf waiting for my attention.

I also may or may not have a tab open with a fun new toy camera, that I learned of thanks to my Substack comments after I crossposted Wednesday’s blog post. For now, I’ve managed to avoid temptation, but I’m not sure how long my willpower will hold out to be honest.

Yesterday I was back up and about, taking it easy after a couple of days on a jelly & yoghurt diet. I got all my cameras loaded up with my new film, and only a couple of snafus (I missed the marker for the first frame of my 120 film in my Holga, and the black and white film in my SLR accidentally rewound without a single frame photographed which turned into an emergency google session!). I even managed two cards for my daily project. I am very thankful the procedure went well and I had minimal swelling and a fast recovery, because I’m not sure my craft budget could withstand another day of bed bound boredom!

Today I’m pretty much normal (well, what passes for normal for me!!), so I’m back into life. I’ve managed a proper hot coffee for the first time since 5.20am Tuesday. I have a list a mile long to whip the house into shape and catch up on all the things I have on the go. The middles have a cultural excursion, so Beetle and I might strap on our joggers and rack up some kilometres for our October walkathon raising money for the RFDS. The long weekend is coming up and I’m determined to get my quilt top finished in between Boy2’s archery comp and helping in the canteen there. The rest obviously did me the world of good because my mojo is back in full force and I’m ready to make all the things this month. Now to just decide where to start!

Would you like to follow along with my Blogtober challenge, but feel like checking in daily doesn’t quite work for you? Every Friday afternoon in October, I send out a quick email digest of the blogging week that was, plus a couple of things that caught my eye and tickled my mojo. Once October is over, I only send it out once a month at most, so I promise not to overwhelm your inbox! Subscribe below to get the weekly summary straight to your inbox to read at your leisure
