five fun things for Friday

What a week! The December business has certainly hit with a vengeance. There’s been homeschool excursions and sticker commissions and photos to edit on a deadline. Dentist appointments and vet appointments and hair appointments. Carol rehearsals and sports Christmas parties. It’s been go go go all week, and I am very glad to declare the weekend officially open for business. I’m planning a big day at the craft table tomorrow because this week has been very light on – and no craft projects means no craft blog fodder which means I’m a day behind in posting for the advent blogalong…and on the podcast blog too! Five fun things tickling my fancy as I hit wind down mode:

It’s funny how the little things can make such a big difference – it was fresh hair day and with the extra length chopped off and my colour brightened up, I feel so much lighter and energised. Maybe it was the luxury of stopping and treating myself in a busy season as much as the actual haircut! Whatever the reason, I’m ready to hit the weekend running and get allllll my remaining 12 Days projects finished ready for posting early next week!

I think I’ve decided I’m going to give up on my December Daily album in the little golden book. I know I said I would work on it some more and try some tweaks first, but I’m not feeling it. 12 days into Advent and I’ve done four pages, that’s not an inspiring amount of progress, really. Instead, looking for something else, I found some 6×8 templates I downloaded a million years ago – they were freebies from Cathy Zielske, and I’ve never used them. Now might be the time! I shall report back tomorrow!

Speaking of fun downloads – I’m planning on getting the Cricut** running for a li’l multitasking action tomorrow. While I keep powering through my 12 Days projects, I’m also going to be cutting a heap of Christmas craft prep for the children for next week. Most of these I downloaded as part of my Felt Paper Scissors membership** and ran out of time to do them last Christmas, so I’m looking forward to getting them happening this year! (pssst – I just saw an email come through that gift memberships** are 10% off for the rest of the month. If you want to treat your favourite crafter, pop in the code GIFT10.)

We celebrate St Nicholas Day, in a nod to my husband’s German heritage. This year, as well as Christmas jammies and Christmas m&ms, St Nicholas also brought the children a game – Exit The Game: Advent. It’s a daily puzzle & escape room challenge, and its been a super fun way to switch up how we count down the days to Christmas. It requires them to work together and think outside the box with what can be some quite cryptic clues! St Nick picked up our copy at Gameology, and if you haven’t shopped with the previously, this referral link will give you $5 off your first order of $50+

The lovely Rachel from Crafty Monkies dropped into my DMs this week, chatting about easy DIY gift ideas. My mind immediately jumped to this post from last year’s advent blogalong – a wrap up of some of my favourite DIY gifts over the years to help inspire your Christmas makes. There’s kids and tweens and adults, lots of options for lots of people. If you do make something, be sure to tag me on instagram so I can see!

Here’s cheers to the weekend! I’m so excited to have a to-do list chock full of crafty goodness. I desperately need some quality creating time. What crafty goodness do you have planned?
