hello summer(ish)

November might be the last month of spring, but it feels more like Summer: The Prologue. Birthday season is over, and we’ve just about digested the last of the cakes. The weather is heating up and the nights are soundtracked by the whirring of ceiling fans and the roar of cicadas pouring through the open window.

It’s also generally our first weekend at the beach for the season, and this year was no different. Thursday night after scouts, we jumped in the car and headed over to the coast for a cheeky long weekend away.

I read two books, and finished my current round of crochet. We got the kids summer clothes shopping done. Bear flew in for a couple of night, and we hit the pub & horrified Mr Barefoot with the cost of cocktails- On Wednesdays We Wear Pink for me, Lychee Lemon for the kiddo…beer for the wet blanket husband. There were coffees on the beach and ubereats pizzas and books by the pool. Delicious breakfasts at cute cafes, and scrumptious takeaways at the flat listening to the rolling waves. It was three lovely, relaxing days, a chance to take a moment and spend some time as a family before the end of year craziness hits.

Today it’s back to real life, and with a thud. I’m four loads of washing in. School lessons are underway and dragging into the afternoon. The fridge is still empty and takeaway sounds like a much better option than dealing with groceries. I’ve managed one page in my November bible journaling projects and zero words in my not-nano story-bonkers project.

Why do short weeks always feel the longest??
