on the trolley :: October – blogtober day three
Nothing demonstrates my rut quite so clearly, I think, than sitting down to write what has been a monthly feature for almost three years now, and realising, I haven’t done an “on the trolley” update since MARCH. I don’t know I’ve even done much in the way of resetting my trolley since maybe June? When it comes to resetting my attitude to making, fixing my trolley is a surefire way to get started and clear out all the cobwebs…thankfully only metaphorical ones, though I imagine much longer and there would have been actual cobwebs on the trolley!!
Step one, was to clear everything out. Step two, make a mini hobby passport (more on that later!). Step three, think about how I want this month to look, and load up the trolley.

I tried to keep it a mix of easy + fun with a couple of more interesting/involved projects as well. In the top basket, I have a journal, some stamps & pencils, and my bobbin lace supplies, and next to it, my current magazine, a puzzle book, colouring book, some dice and a pack of cards. Under the lid, I have a slip in album, my hard drives, dvd player, a note book and a new mini printer.
The middle shelf is much as it ever is – two cameras (Nikon F55 with a 50mm/1.8 lens & Nikon D850 with a 24-70mm/2.8 lens), all my currently started booked (it’s dire), my kindle, iPad and general catch all creative planner. And for the bottom, I have two knitting projects. A join-as-you-go blanket, and a jumper. Both are at different stages requiring different engagement, so they give me choices.
I am excited to have a fresh start for the month ahead. I’m sure there will be plenty of other projects along the way; the idea of the trolley is to give me easy access to non-online hobbies I can pick up and put down, and move around the house with me. If they are right by my side, then I have one less excuse for picking my phone instead of a project!
Today has been a busy one; we’ve been over to the big smoke to collect Beetle and his little mates from scout camp, and may or may not have fallen into Kmart and Spotlight while we waited. The way home was full of stories (them) and knocking over some knitting (me). We’ve gotten a load of camp washing done and ready to hang out, various soggy bits and bobs are spread out on the deck drying, and the wee camper has been scrubbed and is tucked up at the table with a new lego set. Butterfly has commandeered my sewing machine while hers is out of action awaiting a service. Mr Barefoot is heading out to the MTB park, so I’m thinking an afternoon on the lounge with my knitting and the next episode of Alias might be the extent of my activity for the rest of the day! Happy Saturday friends; what are you crafting today?
