sunday snippets

The holidays of January are gone, the fresh starts of February has flown, and in the middle of March, we are grinding our way through the last days of daylight savings and yearning for the school holidays and trying to avoid doomscrolling. This month, more than the previous two, I am actively working at remembering my word of the year, and trying to find stolen snippets of fun. The calendar shows every weekend this month booked up with kid stuff and committee stuff and life stuff, but in between that? There’s been pancake brekkie and multiple batches of hot cross buns. Trips to the MTB park, new projects, new hobbies, the show of course, and day trips to festivals. I’ve been sneaking in some little moments of making – 10 minutes for my lent cards, 5 for a watercolour sketch, knitting at the school table. We’re doing the days, but doing them in a way that counts, and fills our cups.

LIFE RIGHT NOW

Reading// What The Trees See, a non-fiction book that has been on my list for far too long!
Watching// Scarpetta on Prime. I finished it last night and I’m not sure what I think of it (it’s certainly no Bones, which is hilarious to me because in the heyday of forensic novels, I read Patricia Cornwall continuously, and never touched a Kathy Reichs book!)
Listening// to the evening birds chattering + Boy2 expressing his thoughts on Excel as he works through a maths unit for uni
Playing// all the games for school. This week’s high rotation has been Genotype (exploring mendelian genetics), and Periodic (teaching the periodic table)
Making// progress on learning bobbin lace, a new knitted blanket, and lots of baked goodies
Planning// an early night after a 5.30am alarm for scout duty!

FUN LINKS I’VE LOVED THIS MONTH

how cute is this crochet blanket? I’m going to attempt to make a join-as-you go knit version!
Loved this reel on knitting and how it helps us think & process
Mars Bar slice but make it cute? Yes please!
Travel sketching with oils has me in awe
I made these hot cross buns yesterday and they were delicious
These sun catchers have me itching to crack out the clay

Good stuff here Rachel! Those pancakes… boy, I could eat a couple right this second! Or those chocolate hot cross buns. I’ve never heard of such a thing, but it’s good to know you made them successfully. Wish I’d been there to try one fresh from the oven. (Ah. Can you tell I’m dieting?! Ha!) Sounds like your days are full, but such is the life of a mom/wife/homemaker and general jack of all trades. Glad you’re eeking out time each day for yourself. That’s the most important bit.

I didn’t realise until a few years ago that hot cross buns are an Aussie/UK thing! They are quite delicious. It’s a tough time of year to be dieting! Thanks for stopping by x
