me made may week one
The first couple years I did Me Made May, I was deep in the trenches of a sewing hyper fixation, and it was easy to find something to wear every day, and also the mojo to sew something. The first year I did it, in 2021, I made so much stuff, and added a couple of items in 2022 as well. 2023 I made it one week in, and then I don’t think I even attempted it last year – I still wore stuff I’d made, but I didn’t prioritise it.
Four years on from that first MMM, some of my faves are showing signs of being loved a little too much. The gaps are starting to show in my me made collection, and I will confess I’ve found myself starting to tend back towards commercial clothing, because it’s easy and its there and sometimes that’s what I need in that moment.
But I miss it. I miss the joy of slipping on something I made and enveloping myself in a hug from my past self. I miss getting a compliment on a shirt, or a dress, or my shorts, and being able to smugly say “thanks, I made it myself. And it’s got pockets”. I miss the uniqueness that comes with a wardrobe sewn up by me, for me. And so, I’m diving on in for another year of wearing, sewing, and celebrating handmade.
WEEK ONE

Coco tee // hacked LSS hoodie + Hudson jogger // Avery leggings // plantain tee + self drafted skirt // Verity Hope pinnie + Linarii shawl // Linarii shawl + Hermione’s Everyday Socks // cowl neck jumper + Avery leggings // plantain tee + Linden shorts // hacked LSS hoodie v2.0 // plantain tee + Linden shorts
It’s been so fun revisiting some old friends, who’ve fallen to the bottom of the drawer. There isn’t a single thing that I’ve worn this week, that I haven’t thought “oh man I forgot how comfy this was”. The Linden shorts need replacing and are now just “around the house” shorts, as is the grey short sleeve plantain tee (though in a pinch I would run to Bunnings in it). The Avery leggings are high on my list “make more” list – I did make a pair last year but forgot to check the stretch (which was below the recommended amount) and they are too small. It would, however, make an excellent pair if I sized up + went the high waisted version, nice and firm for some mummy tummy control!
I did get a wee bit carried away in those early days, and have quite the overflowing fabric drawer. I’m hoping this is the month I start clearing it out! I’m not going to set a firm number of items but it would be nice to get an average of one a week sewn up. I’m hoping to sew:
*a dressyish knit top
*another Ida blouse
*more Avery leggings
*another pair of Hudson joggers
*some more plantain tees
*a pair of swimmers

Today, it’s all about the comfy me made clothes as I get stuck into a heap of life admin and house cleaning. The kids need to finish some school, the floors need a good mop, and the sun is shining so I feel some life al fresco is in our very near future. Maybe some baking ahead of the weekend. Hockey + gym + airport run (shout out to UNSW and their IT systems flopping, pushing back exams until after the boy was supposed to be on the train home). I found some goodies to do some mothers day craft with the kiddos so let’s pop that on the list too. It’s Friday, all my chickens will soon be in the nest, and there’s holiday’s looming. Let’s do this.

I love wearing me-made too, but don’t really enjoy sewing and constructing garments unfortunately. But I will cheer you on from here.
