…WIP Wednesday – Jingle Gnomes…

It seemed like such a great idea at the time. “We should do a 12 Gnomes of Christmas”, goes out the call. Because I’m a sucker for anything a) challenge related and b) Christmas related, and because I was in ned of a new handwork project, I was head first down the Etsy rabbit hole and had patterns in my downloads folder before I could really work out what I was committing too.

In theory, I know how large 5″ is. I work in inches all the time. My brain, however, HEARD five inches, but decided that 5 inches wasn’t an actual measurement, but was just “small”. I think I was picturing 5cm? I don’t know. What I DO know, is that these stinkin’ gnomes are both larger, and take a whole lot longer, than I anticipated.

Lucky they are cute! Not only did I stuff up by underestimating the time and their height, I also underestimated the width. In my mind, I could easily fit all twelve across the width of a fat quarter. actual size? I might be lucky to get eight!

Thankfully I started with the largest and fiddliest gnome first. This next gnome should be a lot quicker – plus it helps I actually understand the scale of what I’m doing now! We’ve been out for dinner and raffles at the club, a fun tradition we love to do in the first week or two of advent. We didn’t win a ham, sadly, but had a great night out anyway. I finished my sewing project when we got home, and now the children are tucked up in bed, and I’ve tidied all my sewing gear away, it’s time to get my stitch on, and see if I can get this gnome a bit further along. New goal: one gnome a week. Four by Christmas. Seems much more doable than 12!

Hello! I have just started reading your blog, and I’m in love with these gnomes. I can’t seem to find where to buy this pattern. Could you please point me in the right direction?

      Thank you!

Hello! Welcome to my blog, I hope you are enjoying it!

How silly of me not to include a link, I’m so sorry! They are from Magic Stitches Studio on Etsy, she is Russian and was closed for a bit, though I just checked for you and she seems to be open again. I also stitched her Valentines gnomes and they are also super cute!
