crafting some Christmas spirit

Christmas doesn’t feel like Christmas, in our house, if there aren’t three million craft activities on the go at any one time. I’ve been madly crafting my 12 Days, which has ground to a halt today. One item isn’t quite right, and I need supplies, which I can’t get locally. The last two aren’t going to work so I’m scrambling to come up with an alternative. While I chew over those problems, I’ve roped the kids into some distraction therapy, and we’re making all the things!

Last week we were over in our regional city for a homeschool workshop, and with the kids occupied, I decided to duck downtown and hit the shops child free to pick up the remaining Christmas presents. The blackhole that is Spotlight sucked me into it’s unrelenting orbit. In theory, I was browsing for one final stocking stuffer. In reality, I was randomly browsing for some little bundles of cheer-me-up after a frustrating race to a deadline. I found the stocking stuffer, to be fair. I also found two different fabrics on clearance, a tube of paint, two items for the 12 Days, and a cheap pack of polymer clay**. It kind of sort of It reminded me of gingerbread, and for $5, I couldn’t resist throwing it in. We pulled it out on Sunday, and the kids had such a blast with it, I should have bought two. Miss 12 ended up making an entire diorama with her creation, after the tactile play tickled her inspiration bone.

As is always the case, making begets making. I pulled some gold tissue paper out of storage and we got stuck into making some pompoms. The Christmas mini quilts from a year or two ago are getting bound. Miss12 has been baking up a storm, and having a blast decorating the cookies with various Christmas motifs. I’ve been busy doing my best to demolish said cookies the second the icing was set.

They’ve been working on their Advent escape room. I’ve been planning some last minute gift makes. The present sacks we use in place of wrapping paper have been washed and dried and taken to the container to start stacking presents in. I’ve been stitching away today on my current gnome while watching Wednesday.

Somewhere along the line, I slowly became – not less grinchy, really. But more like the grinch at the end of the movie when he becomes a happy grinch, rather than a set the world on fire grinch. With 12 days until the jolly red man comes, it’s probably a good thing I’m starting to find some festive spirit!
