…no moment left uncrafted…
I have long accepted the fact that I am not built to sit still. Not in the “where do they get their energy” way that kids can’t sit still, but in the sense that my focus is non-existent within approximately 37 seconds of sitting passively. Even when I am super into whatever I’m sitting for, be it a movie, or like on the weekend, a conference. Just. Nope. Off on a tangent goes my brain, firmly ensconced in daydream territory. Instead of fighting it, I’ve learned to work with it, and in instances where I know I will have lots of passive sitting time, I am sure to pack some simple, not-much-thought-required handwork. To be honest, I’ll often chuck it in even if I’m not entirely sure there will be sitting passively!
For convention, I actually took two projects. My sunrise stripe sampler, and as it is now too big to easily carry into a seminar room, I also included my crochet hexies. Small enough to fit in my bag, and only requiring the available space in my lap as I work. It can sometimes be hard to gauge exactly how much I will get done, but I managed to finish the orange hexies and get 10 into the green. Not a huge amount, but enough that I feel like I made progress, and, more importantly, that I didn’t go stir crazy sitting with empty hands. Now, to find the perfect yellow to fit between the orange and green…
